Thank you to everyone who helped out with the making of this shoot.

LET'S GET INTO IT!

Thai Food & Mom’s Delicious Yule Cookies

How it started:

Rachelle and I were feasting on Thai food and kombucha on a warm winter day. The waves were small and perfect for swimming. This was a common occurrence for us as we love to dip in the chilly water then relax and brainstorm on the rocks.

We threw out ideas and options for a shoot. We knew we had a great idea when we both were screaming like crazy foxes.

A couple days later we met up and got to work rolling candles, pouring salves and preparing bottles for the apothecary side of the business. After we finished we started talking about how we can make these ideas a reality.

I thought I wrote this down. (You’ll see why this is important).

The next couple of days we booked the shoot and I started prepping the wig and getting jewelry together.

I straightened the hair, cut bangs, packed on glitter and added a crown.

Always show the images to the model during the shoot.

Day Of The Shoot:

I packed the mini cooper full and started on my way to a place called “Hazards Peak” in Los Osos California. It is one of my favorite places because it's where a forest meets a creek meets the ocean.

Rachelle prepared her makeup and got in costume before we tracked down to the beach. There weren't that many people on the beach because it had been raining several days before the shoot and there was rain planned for that day as well. Luckily it didn’t start to rain until after the shoot was over.

The rocks were slippery, the tides were out and the light faded in and out while we took photos. Now when I say the tides were out they truly were except for huge waves that would roll up on you out of nowhere. I almost got taken out several times and if it weren't for my assistant Kat we would have lost several disco balls.

I usually write down everything I want in each image of the shoot. But for some reason I thought I could depend on my memory alone and forgot every image Rachelle and I discussed prior. Good thing she was with me during the shoot to continually remind me of each image and the thought behind them.

So I learned my lesson…always write it down.

Thank you Kat for taking these pictures !

After The Shoot:

Shoots usually take place on saturdays. Saturdays are the coven's ocean dip days so of course after the shoot we found a mermaid pool and dunked ourselves in the freezing water. It was so good!

Once we packed up and left I started on the images. These images were so fun to edit because I got to play with false reflections and light, more deep huge blues, and fun highlight techniques. I can definitely say that I am becoming more confident in my retouching and editing than I was when I started.

A couple weeks later my images were accepted to Spellbound Magazine.
