Before The Shoot

This shoot was so much fun to do ! A big thank you to everyone who helped and supported me with this shoot.

My model for this shoot is Rachelle Beaudoin. She also supplied this amazing turquoise wig and turquoise tail.

Sheileen Carney, Aether Martin and Kat Morse were troopers with this shoot. Braving the cold, holding things in the air for long periods and constantly handing me things were just a few things that I am so grateful for.

This first concept started when my amazing assistant and makeup artist told me she owned this amazing turquoise tail. It is a fabric tail made by a company called Mer-Tailor. They are a well known mermaid tail and accessory business.

I instantly booked the shoot. Since most of the costume was donated I only had one thing to make: THE SHELL BRA.

This is one of my favorite creations I’ve made. I Used a drill and a tub of water to drill 3 holes into each shell. I used water because sometimes the drill can heat up the shell and create a fracture. Since these were the only shells I had I used the tub method. It worked perfectly. These beautiful shells were donated by Dress Your Soul in Morro Bay California.

I broke out my jewelry tools and got to work breaking apart necklaces to make straps. With the scraps left over I made a matching pair of earrings.

One of my faults here was that I needed to use stronger jewelry. Once we got the mermaid in the water the bra just started to come apart. Next time I will probably work on a different type of support system that will be water tolerant.

Start Of The Shoot

We got to our amazing location at 3:00. It was later in the day than desired but our timing was perfect. Daylight savings just started and took an hour of daylight from our shoot. Which Was perfect!

Once makeup was done we ran over the beach and started setting up our props.

The model took to the water and set herself up a rock perch. We shot for about an hour and a half. After we were done everyone was soaking wet, chilled to the bone and smiling so hard our faces hurt.

Once we packed the car and took off makeup we all jumped into the ocean and washed away the day. We had several people come up to us that took our pictures. It was such a magical experience.

After The Shoot

It took me about 3 days to fully edit the shoot. The images were so clear and perfect all I needed to do was some retouching, erasing and toning of the image.

The next week I sent the images to Gilded Magazine. Within 2 weeks they accepted all of my images and the next month we were published.

Now you can find my images up for sale on my website and all the finished images on my online gallery.
